Biography:
Shailene Diann Woodley (born November 15, 1991) is an American teen actress. Woodley is best known for portraying Amy Juergens in the ABC Family series, The Secret Life of the American Teenager and also for portraying Kaitlin Cooper (the sister of Marissa Cooper) in 2003 during the first season of the Fox series, The OC.
Woodley was born in Simi Valley, California and attended Simi Valley High School. Her family includes her mother Lori, father Loni, and younger brother Tanner.Although her parents are divorced, she claims they still spend the holidays together. Woodley had her first audition at the age of five, when her model cousin brought her to a talent-call audition. "My mom was like, 'Hey, you want to act today?' and I was like, 'Sure!' And it just kind of happened. I was never forced to do it, and I never forced them to take me to auditions," explained Woodley. In 2005, she was nominated for a Young Artist Award (YAA) in the Category: Best Performance in a TV Movie, Miniseries or Special—Leading Young Actress for her role in A Place Called Home as California Ford. She appeared as Felicity Merriman, in Felicity: An American Girl Adventure for which she received a Young Artists award nomination in the Category: Best Performance in a TV Movie, Miniseries or Special (Comedy or Drama). This is one of two TV specials that Woodley appeared in with John Schneider. She appeared on Crossing Jordan as a young Jordan, as well as other television series including Without a Trace, Everybody Loves Raymond, My Name is Earl, CSI: NY, and Close to Home. In 2007, Woodley appeared in Cold Case as Sarah Gunden, the murder victim's younger Amish sister, who originally brought the case to the investigators' attention. Woodley currently stars in the ABC Family series The Secret Life of the American Teenager as Amy Juergens, a 15 year old who discovers she is pregnant. The show explores the effects of her pregnancy on her family and friends as well as life at Ulysses S. Grant High School in California. The series debuted on July 1, 2008.
Woodley suffers from scoliosis and had to wear a back brace for 18 months to straighten out her spine. Woodley is good friends with her Secret Life Co-stars especially Megan Park and Francia Raisa. Park has taught Woodley how to play guitar. Woodley enjoys sewing, nature hiking, making crafts and spending time with friends. She also enjoys watching I Love Lucy episodes and she watches them in her trailer in between shooting scenes. Woodley graduated high school through correspondence.
Woodley has been very busy lately, she recently spent some time in New York City and then returned home to California to spend some time with her family. She is currently in Oahu filming her upcoming movie The Descendants.
Woodley plans on attending New York University (NYU) upon completion of the show, majoring in interior design and psychology.
